Daytime Events (11 AM – 2 PM) – Open House Style
Monday: Sagebrush Steppe & Animal Adaptations
The sagebrush ecosystem is full of hidden connections—discover how plants, insects, and animals work together to survive in this unique landscape. Through hands-on activities, real animal skulls, and exploration, we’ll reveal the incredible adaptations that help wildlife thrive in this environment.
Tuesday: Raptors & the Science of Flight
Join our Raptor Care Team for a celebration of all things avian! While our birds may be busy nesting, you might catch a glimpse of them from afar. Learn about the science of flight, participate in hands-on activities, and possibly enjoy a short nature walk to observe birds in action.
Wednesday: Dig Into Soil – Life Beneath Our Feet
Soil is more than just dirt—it’s a living, breathing ecosystem that supports all life above ground! Dig into the fascinating world of soil, search for decomposers, and meet some of the tiny creatures that play a vital role in our environment. Bugs will be found!
Thursday: Become an Archaeologist for a Day
Step into the shoes of an archaeologist and uncover the hidden stories of the past. Students will recreate the process archaeologists use to examine artifacts—like fragments of broken pottery—and learn how these pieces can reveal the lives, cultures, and histories of the people who once used them.
Friday: Wind & Sky – Let’s Go Fly a Kite!
The Columbia Gorge is known for its wind—so let’s celebrate it! Decorate your own kite, then take it outside and let it soar. A perfect way to end the week on a high note!
