The Exquisite Gorge Project II: Fiber Arts with Maryhill Museum of Art

April 16 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The Exquisite Gorge Project II: Fiber Arts with Maryhill Museum of Art
Saturday, April 16th from 12pm-4pm at Columbia Gorge Discovery Center

Columbia Gorge Discovery Center & Museum has joined as the 5th location of Maryhill Museum of Art’s The Exquisite Gorge Project II: Fiber Arts. Join us for a brilliant demonstration of Traditional Mexican Weaving from Francisco and Laura Bautista of Bautista Fine Hand Wovens in Sandy, Oregon. Meet the Bautista’s loom, aptly named, el aventurero, which has traveled from Mexico to locations all around the Pacific Northwest with Fransisco. The Bautista’s will show our guests their craft and take us back in time with this ancient tradition. You’ll be able to learn about their natural dyeing process, as well as their weaving process. You might be able to take one of their masterful works home as well.

When Laura and Francisco Bautista moved from Mexico to Sandy, Oregon they brought with them four generations of weaving tradition. Many of the designs have been in their culture for centuries. Now their daughter Cinthya and son David are also on their way to becoming master weavers. “Watching my two kids weaving now,” Francisco says, “I have no words to describe how happy I feel.”
